A l’occasion du Lemoû 2022, la personne handicapée était au centre des préoccupations du Comité Technique d’Organisation grâce à l’appui de la diaspora Bafou des USA. Très souvent marginalisés, parfois à cause de notre ignorance ou des interprétations péjoratives de nos traditions, nos frères et sœurs handicapés et leur cause ont été mis au premier plan à l’occasion de la 4^ème Edition du Festival Culturel Bafou grâce à la grande mobilisation de la diaspora Bafou des USA. Il faut dire que les 131 personnes handicapées recensées à travers toute l’étendue du groupement Bafou par les soins du Délégué Départemental des Affaires Sociales de la Menoua, Mme NGOUPEYOU YOMBA Solange, se sont senties au cœur des activités de ce grand événement car pendant les Mini-Lemoû ( dans 4 localités de Bafou) et à la chefferie Bafou même (le vendredi 09/12/2022), une bonne tranche horaire était accordée à la sensibilisation de l’assistance sur l’intérêt de l’intégration de la personne handicapée et à la remise de dons à toutes les personnes handicapées présentes.

En droite ligne avec le slogan du Lemoû 2022, « faire et faire savoir, faire et faire voir » sous le leadership de Pr GUIMDO DONGMO Bernard Raymond, Président du Bureau Exécutif (BE), la diaspora Bafou des USA à travers Mme Sylvie NGUENA OUELEGA, Directrice Exécutive des projets de la diaspora Bafou des USA et chef de la délégation de cette dernière au Lemoû 2022, n’a pas hésité à s’impliquer profondément dans les activités du festival sur le terrain. On a ainsi pu voir les membres de la diaspora USA, très fortement représentée lors de ce Festival, se déployer partout au village pendant toute la durée du festival pour porter ce message positif de la valorisation des handicapés et veiller à la répartition effective des cadeaux à ces derniers.

Toutes les dispositions ont été prises par l’équipe de la diaspora pour mettre nos frères et sœurs handicapés dans de meilleures conditions avant les fêtes de fin d’année. Ainsi, des denrées alimentaires aux chaises roulantes en passant par les cannes blanches, béquilles et autres ont été distribués à ces derniers. Et comme si ça ne suffisait pas, la diaspora USA avec le concours du Délégué du MINAS a pu constituer le dossier d’invalidité de 47 personnes et obtenir par la même occasion leur carte nationale d’invalidité.

A en juger par la joie qui se lisait sur les visages des bénéficiaires et surtout leurs proches, il ne fait aucun doute que cette initiative était salutaire à plus d’un titre. Cerise sur le gâteau, la diaspora USA a également mis à la disposition des personnes handicapées une cagnotte de 500 000 FCFA dans l’objectif de les soutenir dans le cadre des activités génératrices de revenus. Placé sous la supervision du Délégué des Affaires Sociales, ce montant qui a été attribué aux récipiendaires à titre de prêts afin de leur permettre d’être à terme économiquement autonomes. Notons que 8 demandes de subvention ont déjà été servies, ce qui a emmené les initiateurs de ce projet à faire un appel général aux bonnes volontés de contribuer à l’augmentation du fonds.

En amont de ce succès exceptionnel de la diaspora Bafou des USA se trouvait une solide équipe du Comité d’Organisation de la Participation de la Communauté Bafou au Festival placé sous la supervision de S.M. Fo’o Melouong Dr DJIOFACK ZEBAZE Calvin. Notons que le volet santé sous lequel était placé cette initiative de soutien aux personnes handicapées était piloté des mains de maître par Ndi Kemjeaza Dr FOLEFACK Alain en collaboration avec la commission santé Lemoû 2022 et son Président le Pr. CHOUKEM Siméon Pierre. Cette initiative de soutien à nos parents handicapés est le reflet du succès retentissant de l’ensemble des actions de la diaspora USA lors de cette 4^e édition du festival Lemoû en décembre 2022, y compris le financement complet des 5 campagnes de santé à travers le village Bafou, l’attribution de 30 bourses de recherches sur la culture Yemba aux étudiants Bafou, et la construction d’un centre d’apprentissage de la langue Yemba à la chefferie Bafou.

Tout en louant cette initiative, nous avons la conviction que cette diaspora ne va pas s’arrêter en si bon chemin car la personne handicapée devrait se sentir acteur dans son environnement. Aussi, avec cet engagement exemplaire de la diaspora USA, nous espérons que les filles et fils Bafou à travers le monde leur emboiteront le pas pour un Bafou où nos frères et sœur handicapés pourront vivre dignement, fièrement et indépendamment. Lemoû 2022: Our brothers and sisters with disabilities were in the spotlight thanks to the support of the Bafou diaspora from the USA

During the Bafou Cultural Festival Lemoû 2022, people with disabilities were at the center of the concerns of the Technical Organizing Committee, thanks to the support of the Bafou diaspora from the USA. Very often marginalized, sometimes due to our ignorance or negative interpretations of our traditions, our brothers and sisters with disabilities and their cause were brought to the forefront during the 4^th edition of the Bafou Cultural Festival thanks to the great mobilization of the Bafou diaspora of the USA. It is worth pointing out that the 131 persons with disabilities identified in the four corners of the Bafou village by the Menoua Divisional Delegate of Social Affairs, Mrs. Solange NGOUPEYOU YOMBA, felt deeply involved with the activities of this great event. During the Mini-Lemoû (held in 4 localities of Bafou) and in the Bafou kingdom itself, (on Friday 09 a substantial amount of time was devoted to raising awareness on disabilities and discussing the importance of support, inclusion, and integration of people with disabilities in the community. During those events, all the people with disabilities present received donations of different natures.

In line with the slogan of Lemoû 2022, " Do and make known, do and show" under the leadership of Pr. Bernard Raymond GUIMDO DONGMO, President of the Executive Board, the Bafou Diaspora of the USA through Mrs. Sylvie NGUENA OUELEGA, Executive Director of Bafou Diaspora Projects from the USA and head of the delegation to Lemoû 2022, were deeply involved in the festival's activities in Bafou. Through that involvement, we were thus able to see the members of the USA diaspora, strongly represented during this Festival, deployed everywhere in the village throughout the duration of the festival to carry this positive message of support and inclusion of people with disabilities and to ensure the effective distribution of gifts arranged for them.

All arrangements had been made by the diaspora team to put our brothers and sisters with disabilities in better conditions before the end-of-the-year celebrations. Thus, food baskets, wheelchairs, white canes, crutches, and others were distributed to them. And as if that were not enough, the USA Diaspora with the help of the Ministry of Social Affairs Delegate was able to compile the necessary documentation and applied and obtained national disability cards for 47 people with disability.

Judging by the joy that could be read on the faces of the beneficiaries and especially their loved ones, there is no doubt that this initiative was beneficial in many ways. The icing on the cake, the USA diaspora also made available to people with disabilities a modest amount of FCFA 500,000 with the aim of supporting them to engage in income-generating activities. Under the supervision and guidance of the Delegate of Social Affairs, this amount was allocated to the recipients as loans to enable them to be economically autonomous in the long term. It should be noted that 8 grant applications have already been served, which led the initiators of this project to make a general appeal to goodwill to contribute to increasing the fund.

Upstream of this exceptional success of the Bafou diaspora of the USA was a solid team of the Organizing Committee for the Participation of the Bafou Community in the Festival under the supervision of His Majesty Fo'o Melouong Dr. Calvin DJIOFACK ZEBAZE. It should be noted that the health project under which this initiative to support people with disabilities was placed was masterfully piloted by Ndi Kemjeaza Dr. Alain FOLEFACK in collaboration with the Lemoû 2022 health commission and its President, Pr. Siméon Pierre Choukem. This initiative to support our parents with disabilities reflects the resounding success of the USA diaspora’s actions during this 4^th edition of the Lemoû festival held in December 2022, including the full funding of the 5 health campaigns across the Bafou village, the awarding of 50 research grants on Yemba culture to Bafou students, and the construction of a Yemba language learning center in the Bafou village.

While praising this initiative, we are convinced that this diaspora will not stop there because people with disabilities should be involved and live meaningful lives in their community. With this great commitment and example from the USA diaspora, we hope that Bafou daughters and sons around the world will follow in their footsteps to make Bafou a place where our brothers and sisters with disabilities can live with dignity, proudly, and independently.
